ACRO PDF - Capture Fields From Previous Version of PDF - Organize Pages Method - 3 of 3

Updated: 6 days ago

Necessary Step - Associate Fields to Tag Tree

While you can use the Auto tag feature within Acrobat, this will not always associate the fields in the order they need to be for accessibility plus there can be issues with synching the logical page order with the Field panel and Tag Tree.

About Tag Tree Association

Key Step: Four Friends of the Tag Tree

Make sure all four friends of the Tag Tree are enabled.

  • Tag Annotations

  • Document is Tagged PDF

  • Apply Role Mapping to Tags

  • Highlight Content

Of particular interest for the successful association of fields to the Tag Tree is the Tag Annotations setting.

Cut\Paste Method of Associating Fields to the Tag Tree

The Cut\Paste method has the advantage of automatically synching the Tag Tree Order, Page Order, and the Field Panel order.

Note 1: There are keyboard shortcuts for each action: Ctrl C; Ctrl V; Ctrl Z; Ctrl Z.

Note 2: If field types have been changes, from text fields to checkboxes, for example, this method of association will not work because the Field Objects may already be in the Tag Tree. If the object are in the Tag Tree, simply drag and drop them into the appropriate location within the Tag Tree.

Note 3: Be sure to keep the mouse focus on the field and not let it drift over to the Tag Tree because this will cause issues with how the method works. The Tag Tree context-sensitive menu is different from the field context sensitive menu.

Your Action Steps

  1. Ensure the Four Friends of the Tag Tree are activated.

  2. In the Tag Tree, create the Form Tag nested within its own Parent Paragraph tag in the correct position in the Tag Tree to match the logical content order.

  3. Select the Form Tag in the Tag Tree (to have it highlighted only). This ensures the Field object gets positioned correctly within the Tag Tee.

  4. Select the field in the content.

    1. From the Edit menu, select Cut (or Ctrl C).

    2. From the Edit menu, select Paste (or Ctrl V).

    3. From the Edit menu, select undo Paste (or Ctrl Z).

    4. From the Edit menu, select unto Cut (or Ctrl Z).
